Tables
A great deal of care is taken in choosing the timber for a table top in order to show the natural beauty of the grain. Tables are available in English Hardwoods such as Oak, Ash, Elm, Sycamore, Beech, French Walnut and Cherry also North American Maple and Black Walnut.
When commissioning a table/dining set, you need to ask yourself the following questions:
- What shape of table is best for the room? Rectangular, Square, Oval or Round.
- What size? (How many to seat?) - (allow 70cm) per seat
- What type of base?
- Extending tables?
- Choice of 1 or 2 extensions to the ends of the table.
- When extensions are in place the grain of the timber matches the main table top. When not in use the extensions are stored completely out of view under the table top.
Rectangular tables either have tressle-end supports - set in about 12 inches from the ends (refectory)- this allows maximum flexibility when seating guests around the table, or legs at the four corners (farmhouse).
